Personalize Your Plate

March is National Nutrition Month! Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics produces resources in different languages to ensure everyone has access to nutrition education. This year, the focus is on making informed choices to make healthy choices, including learning new skills like meal prep and planning. Let’s learn how we can make healthy choices together!

Variety is key

Make sure you’re getting all the vital vitamins and nutrients your body needs by eating a variety of healthy foods from all the food groups! Here are some tips to help you keep track of your eating habits:

  • Next time you go grocery shopping or place a pick-up order, add a variety of healthy foods.
  • Try new foods and flavors by testing a new recipe. Maybe even try cooking as a family!
  • Keep healthy ingredients at home for snacks and meals.

Practice Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness is key for recognizing your emotions and physical sensations. Often when we think of mindfulness, we think of meditating or taking a walk. However, we can also practice mindfulness when we’re eating! When you practice mindful eating, you’re taking the time to pay full attention to your cravings and physical cues when eating. Here are some tips for how you can get started with mindful eating!

  • Eating without distractions and taking your time.
  • Appreciating your food.
  • Listening to your body’s natural cues, for example, eating until you’re full and learning the difference between when you’re hungry versus when you’re feeling bored.
