The “We” in teamwork

We’ve all heard the saying, “There’s no I in team!” We are living in a multidisciplinary world where it’s valuable to be well-versed in a variety of fields, but the ability to work in a team is especially important. We’re living through a year of virtual interactions, which can be an obstacle in strengthening the connections between employees. Let’s skip the trust fall exercises and talk about teamwork!

Make the dream work

Creating a culture of collaboration is vital in accomplishing results to see your organization succeed. No matter how big or small your organization is – teamwork makes the dream work! Let’s learn about some of the benefits of working together:

  • A stroke of creativity: Working together is great for boosting creativity as it allows employees to bounce ideas off of each other to create more effective strategies.
  • Share the (work)load: A strong culture of collaboration not only helps boost creativity, but it also encourages employees to be there for each other to lend a helping hand.
  • A new world: Teamwork helps promote discussions for employees to gain a new perspective on a variety of situations, which inspires new ideas and opportunities for employees to learn from each other.

Improving teamwork

Now, the dream doesn’t just happen overnight – there’s an investment needed to create a more established team of trust. Here are some ideas on how to build a better team:

  • Set goals that align with your organization or company’s mission.
  • Create opportunities for employees to work on projects together. As they work together, their relationship and insight on partnerships will encourage more employees to work together.
  • Host discussions about the struggles your team has faced. Allow employees to talk about what went wrong but be sure to steer them more towards best practices to prevent repeat problems.
  • Encourage employees to share their best practices for encouraging teamwork.

Fun & games

While some organizations are slowly re-opening and re-populating workspaces, some employees might still be in situations where they find themselves working from home. So how do we continue to cultivate teamwork, remotely? With fun and games, of course! Click here for 57 activities you can play to increase teamwork in a virtual space!
