Every year, the CDC recommends getting a flu shot or nasal spray to protect yourself and others from flu viruses. However, this year will be more significant than ever. Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory disease that can affect anyone, but some groups are at a higher risk of developing severe flu-like symptoms that result in hospitalization. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months of age or older get the flu shot by the end of the month. Let’s learn how we can stay safe this cold and flu season![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator color=”turquoise” style=”dashed” border_width=”5″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1611260326743{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

A Season of Protection

While there’s no evidence that the flu shot or will protect you from COVID-19, it will help ease the worry of developing severe flu-like symptoms that may lead to hospitalizations. As well as preserve the resources needed for the safety and protection of our healthcare workers. Here are some other ways you can stay safe this season, in addition to wearing a mask and social distancing:

  • Limit or avoid contact with individuals that are experiencing symptoms. Likewise, if you are experiencing symptoms.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your face as much as possible.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects often.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

A Community of Health

Just like with COVID-19, there are certain groups of people that are at a high risk of developing severe complications from the flu virus. So, it is highly recommended that these groups get the flu shot before this upcoming season. Here are some of the populations that will benefit from extra protection:

  • Adults over 65
  • Adults with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease & stroke, and chronic kidney disease
  • Young children
  • Children with neurological conditions
  • Pregnant women

It’s also recommended that if you are around any of these groups, that you also take the extra safety precaution of getting a flu shot or nasal spray!
